These are some of the features that you get when you set up your account with HostGator, of course there are more and you can always check it on their website. So let’s see step by step how to set up an account with this company.
Step One: Choose a Domain Name
In this step you have to register your domain name if you don’t have one, and system will search to see if the domain is available. If you already have a domain all you have to do is to choose the second option that says” I Already Own This Domain” and enter your domain name. Then proceed to the next step.
Step Two: Choose a Hosting Plan
HostGator has three hosting plans, let’s look at each one of them:
Hatchling Plan: this plan only allows you to have one domain and one website, it is a very basic plan and it is fine for somebody who is starting and only needs a simple blog.
Baby Plan: this plan has more features than the previous plan and it is good for someone who wants to have multiple websites, domain names, and more flexibility. With this plan you have plenty of room for growth with your website. If this is you, and you want to have more than one simple website or blog and plan to grow, than choose this plan.
Business Plan: this business plan as the name suggests is for those who have business needs such as companies and even e-commerce sites. It is also good for large sites as well. If you fall into this category, then choose this plan to suit your needs.
With this information is time to start the registration process of your hosting plan.
Package Type: this is where you choose the hosting plan that you want, there are three plans and you have to choose the one that best fits your needs.
Billing Cycle: HostGator has four billing cycles, which are 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 24 and 36 months. Each billing cycle has its own price, so you have to choose the one that its best for your. If you are not sure yet, choose the monthly plan. And with this plan the company will bill you from month to month.
Username: this is where you setup you account username, it is through this username that you will have access to your hosting account on hostgator. So choose a username for this account.
Security Pin: the security pin will be useful when you contact customer support, it will serve to verify your ownership of the account. So choose a security pin that you will remember. Once you finish with this process move to the next step.
Step Three: Enter Your Billing Information
At this stage you have to fill in your billing information, and you have to put you first and last name, email, company name if it applies, phone number, address, country, zip code, city name, and state. These are straight forward issues, i want to focus my attention to the paying method that you are going to use.
HostGator has two payment methods, and you have to choose the one that you prefer to user to make your payments. That is both upon registration and in the future, you do not have bother so much about it because whatever method that you choose you can always change it later.
So choose between Paypal or Credit/Debit Card. If you prefer to pay via Paypal but do not have a Paypal account yet, you can open one for free at their website. With regards to the card option its important to mention that both credit and Debit Card are valid, as long as it is a Visa Card.
Name on Card: this is the name that is on your card or the name of the card owner.
Credit Card Number: this is the 16 digit card number that you see on your card.
CVV Code: this is the security number of your card, it is the last three digit numbers at the back of your card.
Expiration Date: write both the year and the month in which the card is going to expire.
And that’s it with regards to the billing information, once you finish with this process proceed to the next one.
Step Four: Add Additional Services
The next step is where HostGator offers you additional services for your site, they are not necessary for the functioning of your site. However, some of them are crucial, i am going to guide you on each of them:
Site Lock: this function serves to protect your website against malware and other possible attacks online. So i recommend you to tick this one.
Constant Contact: this is for email marketing purposes, you do not need this one. So leave it alone.
Google Apps: this are the Google Apps so you do not need this one too, leave it alone.
Code Guard: this ensures that you have backups of your site so that you do not have to do it manually. So the company does it for you. Choose this one.
Search Engine Visibility: visibility online is the most important thing, but you do not need your hosting company to do it for your. They should just focus on what they are good at, so leave this one alone.
Step Five: Enter a Coupon Code
At this stage is where you enter a coupon code to get a discount on your hosting package registration. I have one for your. Use the coupon code “wordpresso” and get a discount of 95% on your first month, and click validate. Once you are good to go, move on to the next step.
Step Six: Review Order Details
This is your final stage, there is nothing much to do here except to review your account and click on the yellow button. But first tick on the small field box at the bottom to agree with the TCs of the company, if you have time you can go through them as well. Not necessary, but always good. Click the Checkout Now button and after that you will receive confirmation from HostGator with all the details of your new account.
Congratulations! you now have an account with HostGator.
